Obese and fat are not nice words, and trying to delete them from your vocabulary is very hard indeed, because deleting the words means that you must lose some weight. You have probably tried many diets and exercise programs already, managing to lose 10 or 20 pounds and then putting that weight back on plus some more.
Diet programs do not work because they make you feel deprived and can make you sick if they are crash diets with little nutrition. There are so many diet systems out there that it is overwhelming trying to figure out which one to try next. Many of these systems force your body to lose water but not fat.
Exercise is wonderful if you can find something to do that you really enjoy. Otherwise it is a novelty at first, then it becomes boring and you gradually slack off, especially if you do not see any results. Swimming is the best exercise you can do if you are very heavy because it is easier on the joints. Not everyone has access to a swimming pool however. Walking is next, but this can be very difficult for a very heavy person to do.
- Discuss dieting with your doctor first.
- Set yourself some realistic goals (how many pounds to lose in one week, month, year)
- Find a nutritious diet plan
- Stick to it until you lose a few pounds
- Now try walking or swimming, but do not overdo it at the start.
- If you cannot force yourself to exercise, simple things like doing housework or gardening will help.
- Stay on your diet/exercise plans until you reach your first month goal.
- Re-evaluate your goals, up or down as needed.
The best advice anyone can give you is stay away from fast foods or have them only as a ‘treat’ on only one day of the week.
If you decide to try the berry diet, be sure to check their conditions. Some of the sites have, in their conditions, in small print, that you may cancel your order (for free berries) within 14 days after ordering. If you do not cancel, you get charged full price. By the way, berries are much cheaper from your local health food store!
Karen Williams/Sawchuk
has been obese most of her life, and has tried many diets with success, but was unable to keep the weight off. As a result of constant weight loss and weight gain, she is now having health problems.
For this reason, you are encouraged to be very careful with your dieting and discuss it with your doctor.
