What we must remember is it took years to pack on the extra weight and it may take a year or two to get rid of it. To lose weight we must be willing to work hard at it just like we would for any other job. That is right losing weight is a full time job not a temporary one. If you treated your job like you do your job of losing weight the Boss would fire you.
What needs to happen is discouragement must be kicked out the door. It is the greatest enemy of losing weight. I have heard friends say over and over, “What is the use; I will never lose this weight!” That is called discouragement folks and it will only stop you from obtaining your goal of losing weight. Encourage yourself with each ounce that is lost because it is a great victory. If the scale starts climbing back up on the positive side, it might be from muscle gain (Muscle weighs more than fat).
This is the part we all hate to hear, but I have to say it anyway. Our bodies need exercise; it keeps our muscles toned to support our skeletal system. Those flabby, unconditioned muscles and those extra pounds are going to cause our skeletal system to hurt. In the area of exercise we need:
1. Aerobics-aerobic exercises increase your breathing and heart rate; it causes you to sweat.
2. Strength Training-using weights or resistance exercises (I only use dumbbells).
3. Flexibility exercises-this is not just important to athletes, but for everybody. Our muscles not only need to be firm but flexible also.
Note: It is always good to consult your Doctor before starting any exercise program. When you do start a program, take it nice and slow. Any time you are exercising and you feel any kind of discomfort, please stop.
Something else we hate to hear, “Change your eating habits!” An older gentleman told me something that I have never forgotten, “Eat to live and do not live to eat.” That is exactly how we live today, we live to eat. We over stuff at the BBQ, we eat those extra donuts at the business meeting, then here comes a Holiday and we eat more than we should. Why does everything we seem to do center on food? Oh! You disagree. Here we go: tailgate parties, Super Bowl parties, little league parties and school parties are just a few mentioned here.
The more raw foods that you can put into your body the better off you will be.
The basic thing to losing weight is to exercise and eat healthy foods. Try losing the weight at a moderate pace. I have seen people drop off the pounds rapidly only to gain it back twice as fast. Stay away from those diet pills they do more harm than good in my opinion. I have watched diet pills rise to the top in popularity and then several years later we find out they caused heart problems or other problems.
I mentioned one problem caused by being overweight above and here is a short list of other problems:
* Type 2 diabetes
* Coronary heart disease and stroke
* Metabolic syndrome
* Certain types of cancer
* Sleep apnea
* Osteoarthritis
* Gallbladder disease
* Fatty liver disease
* Pregnancy complications
I have already begun losing weight. I have gone from 270lbs. down to 238lbs. I have changed my eating habits like drinking a green smoothie right after exercise time. Eating smaller portions and eating a lot of vegetables and fruits. Sugar intake is at a minimum. If you do not know where to begin, think about going to slimdownsensibly.com, where you can find several programs.
