Exercises to Try

Everyone wants to be healthy today and typically that entails eating right, however a regular exercise routine is also imperative to one’s health. Fortunately, there are many different fitness activities to participate in today that will allow you to supplement your diet, however, many people stick to the traditional aerobic exercises and weight lifting. Although, there are other types of workouts that people participate in and enjoy besides the traditional ones including barre workouts, Yamuna body rolling, yoga, pilates, and tai chi. And, the people today who participate in these type of exercises all seem to agree that not only are they effective, but they are also much gentler on the body.

Typically, the traditional methods of workouts that many people participate in when they go to the gym (i.e. running and weight lifting) are a little more difficult on the body and they cause stress to a person’s bones and joints. In addition, many agree that as you get older, strength-training exercises like weight lifting become more difficult. And, although aerobic exercises are a great form of exercise, they do not offer the same healing and stress relief that other forms of exercise available today offer.

For these reasons, many people consider participating in lower impact workouts that can also generate great health results for the body. Some people prefer these types of workouts to the more traditional workouts because they are not as rough on your body and they still allow for an exercise output. The most popular nontraditional workout routines that are catching wave today include barre workouts, Yamuna body rolling, yoga, and pilates.

The barre workouts are probably the least familiar of the exercises listed above, however, they are great workouts if you want to condition your muscles. Although the exercises are performed using a bar and mirror much like a ballerina, any person of any age or fitness level can complete the exercises. In fact, there are many studios offering classes across the country where people can attend and improve their strength without having to use weights. Many people today testify in favor of the barre workouts saying they are extremely effective.

If the barre workout is not your style, you might be interested in Yamuna ball rolling (YBR) – a form of exercise that integrates 6 and 10 inch balls. Unlike most ball exercises, the YBR seems to be unique in its ability to focus on your unique needs and target areas, working with your body type to achieve the best results. When you participate in YBR, you are basically getting a hands on practitioner at your service because the workout is geared to stretch out needed muscles. The result for many is better flexibility, elongated muscles, and a leaner figure.

Yoga, which has its origins from India, is arguably the most popular of the nontraditional exercises available today. Although yoga is a form of exercise, at its heart it is a form of meditation and it focuses a lot on the mental aspects of the individual in additional to the physical aspects that take place during the practice. Today, we practice yoga and the various asanas or postures when we attend a yoga class. There are actually different styles of yoga, however the most popular is probably hatha yoga.

Pilates is another form of exercise out there that has become extremely popular and even trendy in these last few years. Many people compare pilates to yoga, and the two are similar; however, pilates combines yoga postures and aerobic exercises. In addition, when you attend a pilates class or work with a pilates trainer, the focus on the workout is on the core and your breathing. Every exercise you engage in relates to strengthening the core muscles.

Lastly, another form of alternative fitness claiming to reduce stress stems from China and it is called tai chi. Many people today love to participate in tai chi because the environment is very friendly and noncompetitive. During a class, you perform postures and movements at your own pace without taking a breather in between poses. This form of exercise is great for all ages and it is actually recommended by health professionals to decrease your stress, increase your flexibility, improve your strength, increase your energy, and elevate your mood.

It is obvious that the fitness world provides those who want to be healthy with many options and activities. Pick one that suits your style, needs, and preferences. The alternative methods of exercise are great options because they provide added health benefits and are not as hard on your body.
