Who enjoys discussing hemorrhoids? Most people find it utterly humiliating, despite the fact that they are a very common occurrence. They’ve been known about for such a long time, that there are a variety of home treatments available for you to try.
Topical ointments will relieve some of the itching, while using a stool softener will ease bowel movements if you find yourself straining. By drinking more fluids and eating more fiber, your body will be able to pass wastes with ease. Altering your diet is more of a preventative to remember for the future as well.
Apply something to give a little relief when wiping. Hemorrhoids are inflamed, irritated veins and scrubbing them with an abrasive wad of toilet paper is only going to make them worse. If you’re able to get some baby wipes, these are excellent to use after a bowel movement.
Applying ice for about 10 minutes at a time should make the hemorrhoids shrink. This home treatment should be done several times a day, if you are able to. Follow this ice routine with a warm compress, again for about 10 minutes or so. Using witch hazel will also shrink and contract hemorrhoids. You can apply this with a cotton ball.
Tylenol and hydrocortisone will relieve the pain and itching caused by hemorrhoids. Avoid using acetaminophen or ibuprofen, both of these increase the bleeding. No one wants this to happen!
If you want to take something for the pain, make sure it’s acetaminophen. Aspirin and ibuprofen can cause the hemorrhoids to bleed more. Hydrocortisone cream will alleviate a lot of the itching.
Make sure you lie down and rest as needed. Resting in bed will take pressure of the hemorrhoids. If you do need to stand, don’t do it for long periods of time. Sitting can be just as bad for hemorrhoids as standing. If you need to sit for a prolonged amount of time, use one of those inflatable doughnuts. You can try all these home treatments as long as needed. The main thing you can do is be gentle down there!
