How is this so? A BMI of 18.5 represents underweight. A BMI of 18.5 .24.9 represents normal weight and overweight is in the 25. 29.9 range. A BMI of 30 or greater is considered obese. Someone with a BMI of 31 is overweight but not by much. Through calculating various weights, a person with 31 BMI would need to lose 11 pounds. They would no longer be obese but mildly overweight. A loss of 19 kg or 42 pounds would place them in the normal category.
BMI can be a big help for those uncertain about body weight. The formula can be made simpler if you know how to change kg or meters. Take your own body weight in pounds then multiply by 4.88. Divide by weight squared. So a 200 pound six-feet tall person is in the normal range 976/36 equals 27.1.
