Is There Really A French Paradox Or Is It Resveratrol?

Have you ever heard of the French Paradox? It was first used by Dr. Serge Renaud to describe how lucky the French people were to eat such delicious, fatty foods without having a high incidence of heart attacks and heart related problems.

Morley Safer and the crew at 60 Minutes had a show regarding the merits of Resveratrol. The show spoke about the French Paradox and how this miracle supplement called Resveratrol was allowing the French people to sustain healthy lives. It was said to be due to the red wine that the French drink.

After the airing of that 60 Minutes report, red wine sales surged! However what many people did not realize is that it was actually the Resveratrol in the wine that was the catalyst for the benefits of the red wine. It was determined that Resveratrol was the allowing the French to consume their culinary delights without having to worry about heart disease.

Resveratrol, which is found in the skin of red grapes is mainly responsible for the benefits of drinking red wine. Since 60 Minutes did their report back in 1991, Resveratrol has been attributed to curing or preventing a host of ailments including heart disease and even cancer.

Since Resveratrol is found naturally, it is not classified as a drug and is found readily available. But the question everyone wants to know is does it work. Is Resveratrol the miracle supplement that it is made out to be. Well it seems so and millions of people worldwide swear by its benefits without any side effects.

As Resveratrol is not a drug. It is completely natural. It is a nutritional supplement. We hear so many people asking is Resveratrol for real. Can something from the skin of red grapes be so effective in treating and preventing major ailments like heart disease? The simple answer seems to be yes.

Now you must understand that Resveratrol isn’t something that fits all. It seems that Resveratrol can’t really work its wonders on heart ailments not associated with dietary problems. UPENN researcher, Dr. Paul Rosin admonishes those who take Resveratrol for the wrong reasons. He said that causes of heart disease outside of the type of diet one has probably will not be helped by Resveratrol use.

Heart disease indeed can be brought on by a number of factors that are not related to the diet. Research as to the benefits of Reveratrol in this regard is ongoing.

The esteemed medical researcher Dr. Christoph Westphal believes if the research and data continues in the fashion that it has, then it’s likely that we all may be taking Resveratrol to “prevent and forestall many of the diseases that strike us as we reach 50, 60, and 70″.

“If the promise holds true, I think this (Resveratrol) has the chance to change health care.”
