Rome wasn`t built in a day
So the saying goes and I think it does make a lot of sense when it comes to think about training and fitness goals.
After working really hard for 2 months there might be a time when we look at what we have achieved and think, was it really worth all the effort? Or thinking, if I really have to work that hard to stay fit I think I`d rather go back to where I was before. And here we are again. Where we were before was not really that great, was it? I might have been comfortable, but there was something, a reason, we decided to make a change and start to train, watch what we eat or drink less. If we go back to where we were before it is also very likely the pain we were experiencing will come back and we either ignore it for a while or begin again from square one.
Sometimes there might be someone else who has started with the same training routine as we did, perhaps a friend or our partner, and that other person is in our eyes doing really well, looks great and gets results. While we might be feeling as if we are not really moving forward as much and as fast and perhaps even begin to feel frustrated. This is a very normal thing to experience and what really makes the difference is rather than comparing ourselves with someone else, we might as well compare ourselves to ourselves before we started our fitness program. How many things have changed since than? Do I not deserve some credit for putting all the effort into my training and working so hard on my diet? What is different compare to when I have started?
Getting fit and staying fit is a work in progress, journey and lifestyle change and if we find ourselves on the road that is a bit rough it wouldn’t make any sense to turn and go back where we started, would it? Just perhaps taking it easy, slowing down a bit, reviewing what we have achieved so far, refocusing again and move forward. People are different and what might feel like a challenge for one person would feel like nothing for someone else and that is another reason why comparison doesn`t work.
But making an effort and doing just a little bit of training at the time will in a long run result in arriving at our final destination and when that happens we might start to plan a new journey, think of a new goal and that is really how it should be.
So whenever you are at the moment, keep going, stay positive and most importantly enjoy what you are doing. Training is really fun and once you begin to see that the whole experience will be so much easier!
Enjoy the journey!
