But it is nutrition and weight loss thais my huge passion. So for me going to the cinema is an experience I enjoy and love. I like watching what people eat, drink and also how much they have.
Going to the Cinema, is a regular occurrence for most couples. A trip to a local cardiff cinema for me and my girl friend can cost almost £15. But with a few snacks or nibbles its not only your wallet that gets a smack, but also your blood sugar levels, cholesterol and body fat levels.
Cinemas in Cardiff, charge enormous amounts for snacks. However the snacks are either high in sugar, high in fat or high in both. So next time you go to the cinema, let’s consider what your going to order.
Hot Dogs are high in calories with over 400 kcal and over 30 grams of fat in a typical 150 gram serving. The sausage is processed and normally covered in a layer of sugar busting ketchup or mustard. Normally laid in between a high sugar, high GI white bread roll – this snack is low in fibre, high sugar, high fat and is something that should be avoided. Instead try some nachos, with chillie beef. Opt for zero cheese and your looking at 200 calories and less than 9 grams of fat. Your waist line will be grateful!!
A large portion (175 g) of sweet popcorn corn can contain almost 800 kcal and over 40 g of fat. This is extremely high calorie, with no nutritional value in the pop corn. This is therefore another snack that should be avoided. Instead opt for some nuts, such as cashew or roasted peanuts. This will save you hundreds of calories, plus provide you with a big hit of protein, to build those muscles while you relax.
Pick a mix are full of sweets that are again, full of sugar. Some are full of sugar and the coated in a layer of more sugar. This will cause your blood sugar levels to peak and lead to a rapid decrease in metabolism. Again opt for some nuts or seeds and save hundreds of calories. Alternatively take some fruit, such as berries or grapes. This will provide you with some much needed vitamins and minerals.
Cola is another high sugar snack / drink. With 175 calories in a 400 ml serving. Swap this for diet cola, which is almost calorie free or the best option a bottle of water.
So next time your in the cinema, be prepared. Remember – ‘Failure to prepare, prepare to Fail’.
